Epilepsy Symptoms and Risk Factors

Epilepsy is a disorder of the central nervous system (neurological) that can develop in any person and at any age. It is more common in young children and older people. Epilepsy can cause unusual or abnormal brain activity characterised by seizures or periods of unusual behaviour, sensations, and sometimes loss of awareness.

Worldwide, around 50 million people are affected by Epilepsy. About 1 in 100 people will have an unprovoked seizure in their lifetime. However, public awareness regarding Epilepsy is relatively less and it can result in the rise of false notions and stigma.
